New Beginnings
My life has been a whirl wind of change these last few months. I graduated college in May and became a certified teacher! The day after I graduated my cousin Cori and I set out on a trip to Louisiana. We spent a couple of days in Baton Rouge and the rest of the week in New Orleans. It was a blast. In Baton Rouge we stayed in a little Bed and Breakfast that was featured on True Blood! When I got back I started working a part time job while filling out applications for teaching positions. I was hoping to get a job in Corpus, but had no luck. I had a choice to make. I could either put on my "big girl panties" and apply outside of Corpus, or I could wait and go without a job. With my summer job coming to an end I made a decision that would forever change my life. I decided to apply in San Angelo and Odessa. San Angelo because I went to college there and have connections with members of the school district and Odessa because my big sister is a police officer there. A few days after applying I got a call to interview for a kindergarten teaching position in San Angelo. I accepted the interview and prepared to leave. I only packed enough clothes for the week and headed for the river. Monday morning before my interview I got a call from an elementary school in Odessa. They agreed to a phone interview and gave me a little time to prepare. I had never interviewed in my life. I was so nervous. I felt like I had completely flubbed the interview. I stumbled on some of my answers. There was no way they would recommend me. I then prepared for my interview in San Angelo. That interview went a little better than my first interview and I could only pray that I got the job. During my interview with San Angelo I got a call to interview for another school in Odessa. I called up my sister and made plans to head to Odessa for the interview. On my way to Odessa I got yet another phone call to interview for a different school in Odessa. Three schools! I was shocked. The only thing I could do was pray that one of my interview went well. I completed four interviews in the span of two days! I was recommended by all three Odessa schools and by Tuesday afternoon I had accepted a position to teach kindergarten at a school in Odessa. I was hired a week and a half before the start of school. It wasn't easy to accept the position, but I knew that it was the best choice I could make. There were times before school had begun that I thought to myself "what have I gotten myself into" I just had to tell myself that everything happens for a reason. I have never been happier. In a short amount of time I was able to find an apartment. Thankfully my wonderful daddy packed all my things back home and moved them into my apartment while I was teaching. We are now 8 weeks into the school year. It is crazy how fast things are happening. I have embraced the crazy, exhausting, never dull life of a kindergarten teacher. I am still getting settled into my apartment and am forever working on my classroom, but I am loving every second of it. I thought I would restart my blog to keep up with my crazy life.
